"Sparkle" Facial Toner

Spray bottle with Sparkling Facial Toner

Skincare can be fun as in this sparkling facial toner.

What is a toner and what are the benefits?  It is a non-alcohol based that prepares the skin to absorb your post-cleansing moisturizer and any other skin treatments that you may apply. It can have a major positive impact on the appearance and tightness of your pores, restores your skin’s pH level, smooths it by refining rough patches and improves skin tone. (Hello, aging skin!)

The first step in most skincare routines is cleansing the face with a facial cleanser or wash, which may strip the natural moisture from it. With toner as the second step it’s job is to gently refresh your skin without irritation or causing excessive dryness.

I love this recipe which I have been “tweaking” over the years to a formula that is not only pretty, smells good, but works for mature skin. I spritz it on after I wash with either a soft cleanser or Blue Tansy Cleansing Cream for added moisture. Then I follow it up with Blue Tansy “Glow” Serum and a moisturizer. I will also spritz it on after I have applied my foundation, or as a final step in my morning skincare routine to add a “sparkling” glow to my skin.

The toner gets its sparkle from a natural mineral Mica Powder, which you can purchase here. The witch hazel that I use is Thayers Alcohol-Free Unscented Witch Hazel. I use the Vitamin E from Trader Joe’s. The following are the three essential oils for this recipe and the benefits of each:

  • Geranium – balances sebum production, heals scars, evens skin tone, tightens skin, and kills bacteria that can lead to acne and eczema.
  • Lavender – can protect the skin from UV radiation, minimizes wrinkles and age spots.
  • Cypress – naturally draws out toxins and impurities from the skin, helps to shrink pores, and firm loose sagging skin.

I hope you enjoy making and using this Sparkling Facial Toner as much as I have.

Let me know if you make it and what you think.
